Sendmail patch

This question probably does not belong on this list but i searched the FAQ on Sendmail and I did not see an answer to my question.

I have the file:   sendmail.8.8.3.patch

is this file compressed somehow....   I have tried to read it, but It seems cryptic to my newbie eyes...  

Anyway I want to know if this patch that needs to be applied to sendmail V. 8.8.3
and how do I go about doing this...
