inetd dies

Dear Sysadmins,

I know this is not the right mailing list for this questions.
However, from my past experiences as an OSF-sysadmin I got
the feeling that this is the most knowledgeable group arround.
Any help or pointers are appreciated:

I inherited the sysadmin tasks for a sun sparcstation running
Sun OS Version 4.???. On this machine inetd dies off right after
startup dumping a rather large (8Mb) core file. I checked the
inetd-conf file by replacing it with a version that I'm sure
that it works.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestion on what else could
be wrong and on how I should handle that problem.
