Update: Hanging display on Alpha 600 5/333
Hi guys,
In my previous query I forgot to mention that the machine has a ZLXp-E1
graphics card (pretty basic stuff) and is running DU V3.2D-1 and Open3D
V3.2 (both preinstalled). No news from DEC yet, but expecting an reply
RSN (fingers crossed!). Original message follows.

We have a brand-new just-out-of-the-box AlphaStation 600 5/333, and it
has big problems. I've reported 'em to the supplier, and to DEC, but
while I wait for them to figure it out I was wondering if anyone here had
seen this kind of problem before.
I finally managed to get myself a whole day to unpack and sort out this
new AlphaStation. Everything started off OK, and the system (not added
any extra components yet) configured itself up from the factory software,
built a kernel and booted. However, when logging in as root, the xdm
session starts, a DECterm window opens, but as soon as the text in the
window reaches the bottow of the window, the whole display hangs. Also,
dragging windows leaves the outlines of the windows behind, before
freezing in the same way.
There is no way to get the system back, so it has to be reset (which I
hate doing). While the machine is hung the light on the CD-ROM drive
blinks slowly, as do all the keyboard lights. The machine works fine in
console mode, and all licenses seem to be installed (did them in console
mode).
Anyone seen this before? Got any ideas? Grateful for all/any input
