Hi All,
I just installed qmail (actually, netqmail-1.05) on Solaris 8, along with ucspi-tcp-0.88 and daemontools-0.76. I ran into the typical Solaris patch problem when building netmail, but that was easily remedied by using GNU patch rather than Sun’s version of patch. I compiled everything with gcc without problems.
I installed and configured everything precisely according to the “Life with qmail” instructions, but am faced with a delivery problem. I used inst_check (which I had to slightly modify for Solaris and for netqmail) which reported “clean” results.
All required processes are indeed running (with proper UIDs and privs) yet when I try running through the test scenarios in TEST.deliver, nothing happens. For instance, I’ll run:
echo to: mjw | /var/qmail/bin/qmail-inject
and no message is delivered to user mjw’s inbox. The same holds true for the rest of the tests in TEST.deliver.
When I attempt the tests defined in TEST.receive, the SMTP exchange works as expected, but no message is ever delivered to the recipient’s mailbox. I’ve looked at syslog and find no errors logged.
I’m not a novice user and have built, configured and maintained “sendmail” servers for years, and am trying to make the switch to qmail to make it easier to implement TMDA. Sooooooo…… I’m kind of at a loss as to where to go from here. It’s usually easier to debug if I encounter compile or run-time errors that are actually displayed or logged somewhere, but this particular installation looks correct yet doesn’t deliver mail. I’m obviously overlooking something. I’ve read the FAQ and searched the archives before posting this but find nothing similar. As such, if anyone here can provide any insight as to how to further debug this and/or offer any suggestions, your help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!
