Re: Qmail Redundancy

Hi All,
First of all, dont send html emails...
Can I have a qmail server with /var/qmail as a link to a nfs share in a
common storage. I know that, maildirs can be on nfs.
Yes and no. /var/qmail can most likely be on nfs but /var/qmail/queue cant.
If that is possible, i will install another qmail server (standby
server) with same IP & Hostname (This will be down always). When my live
server is down, is it possible to mount link /var/qmail & maildirs nfs
shares in the standby server and give the mail service though the
standby server?
There are easier and better ways of doing this. Mailboxes on nfs is a
good idea but there's no need to have /var/qmail on nfs. Just sync
configfiles using rdist, rsync or a similar tool.
If this is not possible, i came across some article that in case of
qmail server is crashed and if we had taken the backup of /var/qmail, it
is possible to bring up the service by installing a new OS and restore
/var/qmail alone.
Installing qmail on a fresh system doesnt take long, especialy not if
you have your config backed up. I dont see how nfs helps in any way.
I'm also pretty sure that backing up the mail queue is fairly pointless
but I might be wrong on that.
Oh, and try not to send attach those annoying and pointless disclaimers
to email to technical lists.
