In an effort to prevent a flame war I would like to put in my opinion.
Flame wars are pointless and only waste bandwidth. Please do not let this
list degenerate as it has been too valuable of a resource.
While it is true that this list has no moderator, it is necessary for
everybody to follow a set of prescribed guidelines agreed upon by a
majority. It is in this great strength, that this forum also has a great
weakness. When somebody falls outside of the guidelines, no one exists to
enforce the guidelines. In this situation we must moderate ourselves, and
when we fail to that, it is up to others to inform us when we have crossed
the boundaries. While not truly moderators, this list exists to help
users of qmail. It does not exist to discuss off topic conversations,
conduct polls, et cetera.
It is true that I have broken these rules myself, indeed this post may
qualify, however I do acknowledge the necessity of the rules, and I broke
them out of sheer desperation. While not an excuse, it does explain my
actions.
I would just like to reiterate that a flame war will not help anybody. I
have seen other lists over the years degenerate until the only topic of
conversation is male and female genitalia. Please do not let that happen
here.
We owe a big "thank you" to those who volunteer their time to answer
countless of questions. Disparagement is not called for.
That is my opinion.
Thank you.
