Just in case my qmail isn't working as well as I though...I'm resending:
------------------------------------
Hi. I would have gone through the archives before sending this message, but
the archive seems to be down (since late last night).
I've recently set up qmail and qmail-pop3d. I've managed to get qmail and
smtp AUTH working, but I have not been able to get pop3d working (regular or
APOP).
I set everything up using the instructions provided by Dave Sill in his book
"The qmail Handbook".
I originally tried using the CRAM-MD5 checkpassword program that I set up
for SMTP AUTH. When that didn't work, I used Dave's suggestion of using
checkpw (actually, checkapoppw). For the first method I used my SMTP AUTH
password, for the second method I used the password I put in
~/Maildir/.password.
Using both those methods, normal (and APOP) authentication fails. However,
if I use DJB's checkpassword, cleartext POP authentication succeeds.
One thing I would like to know: checkapoppw uses /bin/loginlog to log via
splogger. This does not appear to be generating any log files. I even added
a line to /etc/syslog.conf (something like "login.*
/var/log/qmail/login.log"), sent a HUP to syslog, and restarted qmail. (this
is all on RH7.2).
What am I missing?
Thanks!
