net::smtp and qmail

I use NET::SMTP to send e-mails. From time to time I get a message 'I can't
call a method "mail" on an undefined value at Sendmaila.pm(my own
module)'.
After restarting qmail server is starts sending e-mails again. I experience
the same problem on 2 computers. What is going on? Is it a bug in qmail?
Does the qmail stop working?
