??? Pipes don't change in size when written to -- sounds like your
trigger is a file instead.  That would certainly explain the delays.

"ls -l /var/qmail/queue/lock/trigger" again.  It should look /exactly/
like this:

prw--w--w-    1 qmails   qmail           0 Nov  1 23:01 trigger|
