SUMMARY:reclaiming space in /usr directory

Question:
Hi,
The /usr directory of my DECStation 5000/133 keeps expanding and its
reaching the 100% usage mark. I tried to erase some 'big' files by
"rm" them but the size doesn't seem to change at all. May I know how
could I reclaim the space and which files should I delete if I have to
manually remove them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The advice I received is to reboot the system to terminate the
processes that opened the deleted files in order to free the blocks -
this works. To do so without having to reboot, the system processes
that open files for accounting and logging purposes such as "accton",
"eli" , "syslog" etc should be restarted or stopped after deleting
the files.
Thanks again to all those who responded!

Regards,
Guan Wee
