Help booting Decstation in single user mode

I have the task of reconfiguring a Decstation 5000/125. Unforunately
the person who used the machine previously is no longer around and I
do not know what the root passwd is. I need to boot in single user mode
so that I can edit the password file so that I can get in as root.
When I turn the machine on it uses the following command to boot in
multisuer mode:

boot 3/rz2/vmunix -a

I have tried booting in single user mode from the console by using the
following boot command:

boot 3/rz2/vmunix

Unfortunately the decstation does nothing after typing this in, it sort of
just hangs there on the newline not accepting any other commands. The machine 
runs Ultrix 4.2. What am I doing wrong?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
