Motion Corrected Tomographic Images


UT-Battelle, LLC, acting under its Prime Contract No. DE-AC05-00OR22725 with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for the management and operation of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), is seeking a commercialization partner for a technology to correct for patient or subject motion in tomographic imaging systems.  The ORNL Technology Transfer Office will accept license applications through January 31, 2014.

Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory have developed a novel system to correct for motion when reconstructing tomographic images of human patients and un-anesthetized small laboratory animals.  An optical tracking system measures the position of thepatient or laboratory animal during a tomographic data acquisition and incorporates theposition data in the image reconstruction.

Applications for this technology include clinical and preclinical Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT); The technology has the potential to be extended to include X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

License applications will be evaluated based on prospective partners' ability and commitment to successfully commercialize the technology, with a preference for United States based businesses and small businesses.
