BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Alan L. Liby
Dr. Alan Liby is a Economic Development Manager at Oak Ridge
National Laboratory with responsibilities in Technology Transfer
and Economic Development and the UT/ORNL Center for Homeland Security
and Counterproliferation. At TTED he is working with ORNL management,
regional universities and regional economic development organizations
to develop strategies to increase industrial collaboration and
business creation associated with nanotechnology and neutron science.
At CHSC he is establishing partnerships and developing homeland
security projects among ORNL and Tennessee Valley Corridor industries
and universities.
Prior to joining Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Dr. Liby worked
as a consultant providing operations, technical, marketing, business
management, and technology strategy help to small businesses, Los
Alamos National Laboratory and Y-12 National Security Complex.
He co-founded Manufacturing Sciences Corporation and relocated
the company to Oak Ridge in 1984. As President until its sale to
British Nuclear Fuels in 1998, he led the company in its growth
from 3 to more than 200 employees with more than $40 million capital
investment in Oak Ridge. Earlier employment included positions
with the US Army, General Electric, Dow Chemical and Rockwell International
and as an adjunct faculty member at the Colorado School of Mines.
He is a past chairman of the East Tennessee Economic Council and
currently serves in board positions for Technology 2020, the Oak
Ridge Utility District, SunTrust Bank and the Emory Valley Center
Foundation.
