| (1) Remote Chemical Sensing and Recognition, (2) Ultrasonic Reading Machine Based on Reverse Photoacoustic Effect Reference Number(s) Laboratory: 114 Docket Number: 1300001582 DOE reference no.(s): 105,184 Abstract (1) A remote chemical sensing and recognition approach is developed on a new spectroscopic effect: chemical nature of a sample is remotely determined from the wavelength-dependent phase change spectrum can be arranged to enable compact device construction and easy field operation.
(2) An ultrasonic reading machine is developed to help visible-impaired people read black-and-white features and colored features. The ultrasonic reading machine offers numerous advantages in reading non-planar or non-touchable feature, such as those attached on solid stands. Application(s) of the Technology (1) Remote detection of chemicals, explosives, biological agents, and adsorbates, etc.
(2) Reading machines for visually impaired people. Main Advantages of Invention The techniques in this disclosure provides a less cumbersome, more sophisticated, and less expensive, process that would provide for a quick and widespread deployment. The technique is more sensitive to environment variations and can be used under a wider range of operational condition with fewer constraints. Compared with currently available optical machines, the ultrasonic reading machine offers numerous advantages in reading non-planar or non-touchable feature, such as those attached on solid stands.
