All
off-site personal computers must be sanitized prior to disposition to
comply with Department of Energy Directive DOE
N 205.12 (follow links to Read Current Directives by Number,
Series 200) and ORNL SMBS subject area Cyber
Security (internal access).
Non-operational
hard drives must be sanitized by degaussing (destruction technique)
using an ORNL-approved degausser. Such hard drives may be removed and
sent to ORNL for degaussing or may be physically destroyed at the
subcontractor site with approved documentation provided to
appropriate ORNL staff.
ORNL Cyber and Security
Information group may approve an alternate form of sanitization (e.g.,
software to overwrite all information on the hard drive) on a
case-by-case basis.
Subcontract Property
staff will assist subcontractors with this process.
