Manager, Industrial and Economic Development

Jennifer PalmerPalmer is Manager, Industrial and Economic Development Partnerships at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). As a member of the Partnerships Directorate, she works with industry, universities, and regional economic development organizations to develop and implement strategies to use ORNL resources to support new business creation and existing industry growth and competitiveness. She leads initiatives in the buildings research portfolio focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy technology commercialization, economic development and industrial partnerships. She joined the Partnerships Directorate in 2006 to manage the commercialization of ORNL technologies in the energy and engineering sciences portfolio.

Palmer began her career at ORNL in 1992 in the Environmental Sciences Division conducting environmental research in contaminant transport, hydrological and geochemical characterization, and investigating carbon sequestration in terrestrial ecosystems. In 2003, she joined the Engineering Science and Technology Division focused on energy efficient solutions in residential buildings for US DOE’s Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, Building America Program to lead a national campaign in residential energy efficiency conducting business development and providing communications, marketing and outreach. She has extensive experience in technical exhibits, workshops and meeting planning. She holds a BS in Environmental Science, cum laude, with a dual field of concentration in Biology and Chemistry and a MA in Organizational Management, honors, from Tusculum College.

Palmer is a professional member of the Association of University Technology Managers, Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals and the American Marketing Association. She is a 2008 graduate of Leadership Oak Ridge and currently serves in board positions for the Roane County Chamber of Commerce, Roane County Chamber of Commerce Economic and Community Development Committee, Innovation Valley Tech Council Executive Committee, Leadership Oak Ridge Alumni and East Tennessee Quality Growth.
