The Quality Engineering and Inspection Group provides inspection and testing services to support the research and development divisions and environmental management projects.  Specific services include:

Safety Surveillance Inspection

Safety Surveillance Inspection provides inspections of air filtration systems (portable and installed), air flow measurements, and inspection of respiratory protective equipment (respirators and cartridges). Support services include scheduling, status reporting, and records management.

Receiving Inspection

Receiving Inspection provides inspections of purchased materials and equipment for the purposes of assuring conformance to OSHA, ANSI, EPA, ORNL requirements, and purchase specifications. Included are inspections of all items listed on the Critical Items Inspection/Testing list.  Those items that are procured with “Special Inspection” noted on the purchase requisition and items requested by ORNL personnel to be “Special Inspected” prior to acceptance, as well as traditional stores items.  Inspections may be performed by the designated Receiving Inspector or by other qualified QE&I staff.

Containers/Packaging (DOT); Portable Ladders - 29 CFR 1910.25

Compressed Gas Cylinders - 49CFR 173.34; Compressed Gas Regulators 

Welding Equipment (oxygen/acetylene mixing barrels, cutting attachments, torches) 29 CFR 1910.252
