February 6, Black History Month- One Price - One Plate Food Bar - Cafeteria.

Menu will be fried catfish, spare ribs, corn on the cob, black eyed peas, greens, fried okra, corn bread and drink.


February 1-25, The Manhattan Project Contest ANSWERS!

Test your knowledge! One winner will be selected from all correct entries and announced at the end of the program on the 27th. Entry forms will also be available in the cafeteria. Winner will received a signed painting by ORNL's David White. Be sure to attend the program on February 7.


February 7, The Manhattan Project "Secret Science, Birth of a City, Diverse Population"

Presentation given by Will Minter and Steve Stow
11:30 am - Wigner Auditorium

The Manhattan Project was one of the biggest economic drivers in East Tennessee. Between TVA and the Manhattan Project (Oak Ridge), they both brought money, jobs, manufacturing, retail, people and churches to the region.

A number of books and even movies have been produced about the Manhattan Project, the beginning of a city and community however, very little was said about African Americans and the Manhattan Project.

An event you don't want to miss. The full story of the Manhattan Project, "The Rest of the Story". A more balanced story of the Manhattan Project from Steve Stow and Will Minter, ORNL staff members and ORNL resident history buffs on the Manhattan Project.

Refreshments will be served.


February 14, "HATS"

Presentation by Joe Cornelius. "HATS" is a one man portrayal of the history of African-Americans. Through the use of over a dozen "hats" Dr Cornelius traces the past, present, and future of his people with drama, music, humor and insight.

February 27, Generation of Music/Soul Food Tasting

This is a historical narrative designed to identify persons who have fought for freedom throughout history. This narrative is accompained by universal voices through music. Soul food tasting with an African/African-American flair. (This event is not designed to replace lunch since only small samples will be served.)
