Salsa Contest Winners!

September 15-October 15------Hispanic Heritage Month is nationally observed to coincide with the September dates when six Central American countries (Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua) received their independence from Spain; activities usually acknowledge the contributions, heritage, and cultures of the various Hispanic peoples in the United States.

Speaker: Mario Azvedo, Medical Center Specialist for Key Pharmaceuticals (Acute Coronary Syndromes), "Latin America: Past and Present"

Mario is from Brazil. He has an MBA from UT and has a medical background. He has traveled internationally for companies such as Baxter Health and Bristol Myers. His expertise is in negotiating contracts with state governments from the Middle East to South America. His talk will cover social economic structure, typical mysticisms, international business practices, and the differences between Brazil and Latin America. (An interpreter will be provided for the hearing-impaired.)

The Research Reactors Division has a small display set up for Hispanic Heritage Month. The display consists of items brought in by various division staff: paper mache' dolls, pottery, blankets, sombrero, silver, statues, bells, tiles, etc.

Salsa Contest and Special Menus at the ORNL Cafeteria

Hot or Mild?---- Sound Familiar?
As part of the Hispanic Heritage Observance Celebration, ORNL will have its first Salsa Contest! Enter a quart of your delicious recipe and win a secret door prize. ORNL employees enjoying their lunch at the cafeteria on October 12 will be the judges during the lunch time hour. All employees are invited to enter. Contact Laura Chavez-Becker at 574-6196, or Debbie Knox at 576-8685 by October 5.
