National LaboratoryDr. John Sheffield is the Energy Programs Coordinator at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The programs encompass research in energy efficiency and renewable energies, fission, fossil and fusion energy, and transportation. He is involved in studies of world population growth and potential energy demand: opportunities and issues. He is also Director of the Joint Institute for Energy and Environment at the University of Tennessee, a center sponsored by ORNL, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and the University of Tennessee. For the U.S. Department of Energy, he chairs the Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society.
